Puerto Rico 2-Week

Cultural Exchange & Service Adventure

PROGRAM ACCOMMODATIONS

CERRO GORDO AND VILLA DEL RIO COMMUNITY

After flying into San Juan, students are transported in vans to the quaint beachside town of Cerro Gordo located just 25 miles west of San Juan.   Here the group will have exclusive access of a lodge which was converted from a private residence into a dorm-like hostel complete with bunk beds and private bathrooms.  Separate floors and rooms are utilized for girls and guys.  The lodge has a shared kitchen, living room, and indoor/outdoor eating areas and ample outdoor green space is available for ice breakers and games.  We will have our own private cook prepare group meals on the premises.   After a day of hard work, the best part is that beautiful beaches and playful surf are only two blocks away!

PATILLAS AND EL YUNQUE RAINFOREST

During the Patillas segment of our trip, the group stays at a private eco-lodge located on a hillside on the edge of a pristine wildlife reserve and just minutes from the town and worksite.  The lodge has incredible views of the ocean and rooms are comfortable and shared between four students with private bathrooms.  A communal and open eating and recreation area are complete with a pool table and other games.   Similar to Cerro Gordo a private cook will prepare group meals.   While nice ocean breezes typically pass through the lodge, a ‘dipping pool’ is on site for cooling off on hot Puerto Rican days.

LUQUILLO BEACH AND OLD SAN JUAN

Literally one step from our hotel in Luquillo are pristine and expansive beaches.  Following a couple weeks of service work, the group takes a well deserved break by traveling to this hotspot for ocean activities.  Accommodations are standard hotel rooms with four to six students sharing a room with a private bathroom.  The hotel we utilize has open common areas, a pool, and an open air restaurant with amazing views of the ocean.

I had a blast and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Alyssa, Puerto Rico Participant

I would venture to say that it was the service aspect of the trip that was Erin’s favorite.  She was so impressed with the genuine appreciation that they received from the families that were helped and I am sure she will never forget them. This...

For future students who are considering a Global Works program I would say absolutely GO FOR IT. I wouldn't give anything in the world for the experience I had. It will always be an eye-opening event in my life that I will remember forever.
