Spain 4-Week

Language Immersion & Service Adventure

PROGRAM ACCOMMODATIONS

MADRID

Global Works participants begin their journey in the heart of Madrid’s cosmopolitan inner city. Our hostel is right off of the bustling square, Puerta del Sol, and a few blocks walk to the majestic Plaza Mayor and the renowned Prado Museum. This historic 19th century building was a favorite haunt of Ernest Hemingway and the location of the first cinema projection in Spain before it became the simple but comfortable hostel that it is today.  All rooms have private bathrooms.

AMAYUELAS DE ABAJO

In Amayuelas de Abajo, participants stay in a beautiful 17th-century house that has maintained many of its old-world charms.  The proprietors have conserved as many of the home’s original elements as possible, including its numerous cozy plazas, large communal dining areas and a gorgeous covered patio.  Lodging is simple, clean and cozy with bunk bed sleeping arrangements. Owners of this hostel work hard to promote community-based living environments with a focus on healthy agricultural initiatives and sustainable rural development.  This small community atmosphere is an ideal place for Global Works participants to break out in small groups and help the locals with various tasks such as making adobe bricks for construction, learning to make bread for dinner or helping in the greenhouses.

SIERRA DE GREDOS HOMESTAY

After leaving Amayuelas de Abajo, we travel south to Sierra de Gredos where we begin our 10-day homestay. Our homestay families are carefully selected and the majority have hosted Global Works students in the past. Most families live in simple homes and all are committed to providing a caring, secure environment for our participants. Participants eat meals, sleep, and spend weekends with their homestay families. Most weekday mornings, afternoons, and evenings, the groups come together to work on projects and engage in organized activities with fellow Global Works participants and members of the community. Students will have a private room within the home or the room will be shared between two Global Works students.

BARCELONA

The end of our journey brings us to a gorgeous villa on the outskirts of Barcelona. The “No Worries Villa” has all new facilities, an outdoor barbeque area, a huge swimming pool and a tennis court. From this location, we will be able to combine busy day excursions sea-kayaking in the Costa Brava, biking around the city and ogling at the local architecture with leisurely evenings in the company of our new friends.

Enjoy every minute, because it’s over way to fast. Also, don’t be nervous about your Spanish skills because it is okay to make mistakes.
