MEET OUR 2015 AMBASSADORS: BRIGITTE FROM NEW JERSEY, GOING ON OUR PANAMA TRIP!

Brigitte, 2015 Panama AmbassadorBrigitte is a junior currently living in Princeton, New Jersey. She is thrilled to embark on the Panama 3-Week Immersion trip for the summer of 2015!

During the school year, Brigitte balances between her intense Acc/AP classes and participating in many of her schools clubs and organizations like crew, 101 fund for students in need of college tuition aid, and the Outing club, which goes on outdoor excursions around the central NJ area. She particularly excels in English, History, and Language. Since Brigitte was eight, she has ridden horses multiple times a week, allowing her to escape to the beautiful countryside and spend more time outdoors. She also works at the barns to support the cost of her lessons which helps her learn about equestrian care and all the work it takes to run a barn. On the weekends, she participates in local shows and events that challenge her riding abilities, help her further her skills, but most of all are fun! Brigitte also works at a local pastry and ice cream shop, the Bent Spoon, 11-20 hours a week to help support her family and learn the responsibilities of maintaining an organized, punctual schedule as well as various aspects of business management. The shop uses mostly local and organic ingredients, also providing vegan options, which Brigitte feels passionate about.

Brigitte went on the Costa Rica 4-week Immersion trip 3 years ago and is excited to return to the amazing programs of Global Works as a veteran. Last summer, she journeyed to Peru for 4-weeks through her high school as part community service and part immersion. During both her service trips abroad she participated in a homestay where she lived with a native family and experienced their unique cultures while improving her spanish abilities in environments outside of the classroom. All of these adventures have influenced Brigitte and made her realize her love and appreciation for other groups of people and desire to continue service work. She would love to continue a career of charity work and working with impoverished communities, especially helping those in Latin/South America, into and after college.

In Brigitte’s free time, she likes to bike, hike, ski, make videos with her friends, and travel. As an only child, she aids her family with various household responsibilities and takes care of her mother. Her father is a photographer and has influenced her love for capturing moments, people and locations. Although she enjoys photography, her true passion is documentary film and, in the future, would love to be a director, educating people of the various lifestyles and struggles of the diverse world around us. The Ambassador Program is the perfect outlet of creative expression where she can use her film and writing skills to document her exciting trip!
