Hayley Stewart
Hayley is a high school Spanish teacher from Denver, CO. When not working, Hayley likes to hike/camp/ski in the Rocky Mountains and ride her bike around the city. Hayley graduated from CU Denver with a double major in International Studies and Spanish. She studied abroad at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso in Chile, and shortly after graduating, turned a three week trip to Colombia into a nine month backpacking trip through Colombia, Ecuador and Perú. In that time she learned how to make and sell jewelry, and sold translations in exchange for room and board. However the biggest thing she learned was how to laugh at herself and turn difficult experiences into joyful ones.

If you had to give one piece of advice or words of encouragement to someone on their first travel experience, what would it be?
Things will be imperfect, and that’s ok! Sometimes you will miss the bus, and take refuge in a cafe that will introduce you to some of the best food you’ve ever had. Sometimes you’ll make the bus, and get so carsick you spend three hours hugging the toilet in the back. It will all be ok. There will be another bus, or a sympathetic passenger that will share their dramamine. It’s all part of the journey, and you have to learn to laugh at it (though sometimes the laughter may take a while!).
