Details and Itinerary
Students fly into the capital of San Jose, Costa Rica and drive via private bus to a lodge based on the outskirts of the city. We get started right away with initial education and orientation activities. Our first couple days in country are busy ones. We volunteer with our project partner which provides health services to immigrant families in Costa Rica, who don’t have access to the public health system. Volunteer activities include: assisting with kids’ health education classes, observing doctors in the clinic, and supporting with patient intake.
Next, we travel north near La Fortuna and Arenal volcano. Global Works students work alongside community members on health education and rural clinic visits. We also spend a half day at an alternative health clinic to broaden our scope of how medicine is utilized in Costa Rica. Finally, adventure awaits as we walk to a gorgeous waterfall and a Zip-line through the stunning canopy!
Time to hit the beach! We travel to the Pacific Coast, famous for its unique combination of rainforest and ocean settings. We spend two full days taking surf lessons, taught by professional instructors. The wave conditions on this beach provide the perfect opportunity for all levels to hang ten! On the final night we enjoy a celebratory dinner and reflection.
On our final day, we depart for home from the Liberia Airport in northern Costa Rica.
