Details and Itinerary

DAYS 1- 3: Orientation

Welcome to Yogyakarta, one of the main cultural centers of Indonesia! Once we get settled, we go on a walking tour that leads us to our welcome dinner. Our exploring also entails a visit to Kraton, which is the only kingdom province in the country. Later, we get a taste of the local hangouts and play some mystical games. After some team building games, we become inspired to do volunteer work in Menoreh Hills.

DAYS 4-8: Volunteering in Kulon Progo

Today we meet our local host family and get familiarized with both the area and our volunteer project. There is a big demand for English speakers due to the rise in tourism, so we are needed to help build conversational skills. Also, many people in Kulon Progo live in underprivileged conditions, so we get to help improve some of the facilities in the area. Although we are working hard during the day, we are fortunate to be able to relax with our host families at night!

DAYS 9-11: Moving to Yogyakarta

We say goodbye to our wonderful host families and transfer back to the city life! Then, we get to experience a beautiful sunset at an ancient site in Borobudur. Be prepared to get a glimpse into a Buddhist doctrine and the Javanese life 1,000 years ago. We get the chance to delve into different parts of Yogyakarta like visiting a volcano! Merapi Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the country and we are able to see the recent lava flows. With all this exploration, our empty stomachs are filled with some local delicacies.

DAY 12: Departure

Sadly, it’s our last day in Yogyakarta, but we get to spend the morning eating breakfast and reflecting on our time here. Once the afternoon comes, we must say goodbye to our friends and transfer to the airport. Selamat jalan! (Have a good journey!)
