ITINERARY
Arrive to Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in the capital city of San Juan, Puerto Rico and meet your Global Works trip leaders. Transfer via private bus to our group lodging at the Big Yellow House. We begin orientation to get ready for the adventure ahead!
We take a stroll through the cobblestone streets of Viejo San Juan, the colonial heart of one of the oldest European cities of the Americas. We experience Puerto Rico’s vibrant past from an insider’s perspective with an interactive tour of the historic district. We take a break to enjoy a traditional Boriqua lunch at one of Old San Juan’s traditional eateries.Cool off from a warm day in the tranquil waters of the Caribbean before group evening reflection to explore first impressions of Puerto Rico.
Visit Cueva Ventana, one of the most picturesque cave networks in the Western Hemisphere. Enjoy lunch at a traditional Puerto Rican Hacienda. Then we meet our adventure guides on the Banks of Rio Tanama and take a guided journey along the river where we hike, float, and spelunk through tropical trails and river caves.
After a tropical breakfast, we head to a local community for a Bomba y Plena dance class with professional instructors and live musicians from the community. A delicious lunch and a chance to find some souvenirs in the town of Luquillo follows dance lessons. The we explore El Yunque Rainforest and get up close with Puerto Rico’s most iconic waterfalls, lush tropical canopies, and spectacular views. We return to our lodging after an active day to relax, play volleyball, or take a dip in the ocean.
Head into the mountains for a day of rock climbing amidst the high jungles of central Puerto Rico. Our instructor is an industry expert and passionate climber who started an initiative to develop the sport of rock climbing in Puerto Rico. With opportunities for climbers of every level, we will hone our skills climbing on a private climbing site. On our way back to the Big Yellow House, we take a quick detour and to visit Mar Chiquita Beach, one of the most picturesque pieces of the Northern coast. We can take the opportunity to swim, or simply enjoy the views before we return home for a catered dinner.
After breakfast, we head to Isla Verde and meet up with our local surf instructors. We spend the morning riding waves and enjoying tropical juices on the white sandy beach. Afterwards, we dead down to Fajardo, situated on the Island’s rugged Eastern coast, and enjoy a delicious sit-down dinner. At sunset, we kayak on the spectacular bioluminescent bay and learn what causes this natural phenomenon from our expert guides.
After a catered breakfast, we meet our catamaran and crew at the Fajardo Marina. We set sail for Icacos Island off the Eastern Coast. We have an opportunity to snorkel and explore the small and secluded island before returning to the main island. We honor our last dinner together with a cookout celebration and reflections about our experience.
After a catered breakfast at the Big Yellow House, our new home-away-from-home, we pack our bags and depart for the airport according to your flight schedule. We can’t wait to share new memories and experiences with our friends and family back home.
