Itinerary

Days 1 – 3: Madrid Arrival & Orientation

After an overnight flight we arrive in Madrid to start our adventure. Upon arrival, we head to our centrally-located lodging near the Puerta Del Sol in the heart of the city; we have some time to rest before beginning orientation and language activities in the historic capital. We explore Retiro Park, the Prado, the Royal Palace, Reina Sofia Museum, and other highlights with a knowledgeable Global Works guide. Our focus is on the spectacular examples of historic and contemporary art and architecture throughout the capital.

Days 4 – 7: Valencia Homestay & Environmental Service

Next, our group travels east to Valencia where families are eager to meet and welcome us into their homes. In the evenings and on weekends, we learn and practice Spanish with our homestay families. During the days, we come together as a group to see local sites and work on community service projects. Our focus is on environmental restoration and preservation projects. We learn about the important biodiversity of the wetlands and dune habitats that we help to restore. During several afternoons, we enjoy swimming, visiting the waterfront, and exploring Valencia’s many historic and artistic wonders. A farewell dinner and celebration brings to a close an unforgettable time with our families and this community.

Days 8 -9: Barcelona

Our travels culminate in Barcelona! Be prepared for the fascinating buildings designed by architect Antoni Gaudí, including the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, which we see on a leisurely bike tour around the city. There is also time to tour the Picasso Museum and other cultural landmarks of this fantastic city. Additionally, we find time to hang out at the beach and explore the incredible Boquería market.

Day 10: Departure

During a final celebratory dinner, we exchange laughter and stories from our trip. Although it is hard to part from this marvelous country, our memories of Spain will last a lifetime!
