Details and Itinerary
Our experience begins in the Hanoi hotel. We are greeted with our first Vietnam meal and then the next morning we prepare for a city walking tour around Hanoi Old Quarter. Next, we visit the Bat Trang Ceramic and Dong Ho traditional painting villages to meet craftsmen and learn more about their lifestyle.
All aboard! We arrive in the Tuan Chau harbor and get on board to cruise. On the way, we arrive in the Van Gia, Tung Gau area (the location of the King Kong movie) to enjoy kayaking and swimming. Later, we learn to make fresh/fried spring rolls, enjoy Tai Chi lessons, and go cave exploring.
Be prepared to have your mouth water because we will be passing through fields of tapioca, sugar canes, and rice paddies. We continue our journey through terraced fields, valleys, and tropical jungles, so bring sturdy shoes! After all the trekking, we will help the host family prepare a meal and give English lessons to the local kids.
We finally get a taste of Vietnamese rural life today as we prepare for our homestays in the valleys and limestone mountains. Once welcomed by the local communities, we begin our volunteer work of being tutors of English to the local teachers and kids around the villages. We won’t be the only ones doing the teaching, though! The teachers and kids also get to test our skills of the Vietnamese language. We are so lucky to get the opportunity to participate in this project that not only allows us to share our culture, but also gives us a full immersion of the Vietnamese culture.
It’s our last day and we must say goodbye to our new family and friends. We get one last chance to explore in the Old Quarter before heading to the airport to depart for our U.S. home.
