The Big Yellow House
Cerro Gordo, Puerto Rico
The Big Yellow House (BYH) is Global Works’ home base for most programming in Puerto Rico. It’s located in the quiet coastal town of Cerro Gordo, about 45 minutes west of San Juan.
BYH is just what it sounds like – a Big Yellow House! It is beloved by Global Works participants because of its size and versatility for our groups. It is also just a few minutes walk from a beautiful beach that groups can visit to cool off after work days in the community.
What’s it like to stay in the Big Yellow House?
Students sleep in bunk rooms of 4-8 students. Bedding is provided by BYH. Students sleep on floors separated by gender identity.
For School Group Travel, program chaperones sleep in single rooms that are distributed among the student floors.

Each floor has multiple bathrooms that are shared among the students on that floor. Bathrooms each have a locking door with a toilet, shower, and sink inside.

BYH is super functional for Global Works groups! There are multiple large, covered outdoor spaces, perfect for gathering for debriefs, meals, and games.
There is also a volleyball court, basketball court, and space for soccer games on the property.

Breakfast and dinner are catered by a local restaurant owner who has been cooking meals for Global Works students for years. Students pitch in as cleaning crews after each meal!
