Itinerary

DAYS 1-3: BEACH LODGE ORIENTATION

Our beautiful beach eco-resort on Fiji’s Sunshine Coast serves as a wonderful base for orientation, getting to know one another and learning about the culture of the people who will capture our hearts over the next two weeks. We take a language lesson, explore the cities on Nadi and Lautoka and learn about some of the marine conservation issues facing the waters of the Fiji Islands.

DAYS 4-8: TAKALANA BAY REEF CONSERVATION & SPINNER DOLPHIN RESEARCH

We work alongside naturalist guides and research staff from the University of the South Pacific and the International Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society. Our efforts empower local communities to protect not only the dolphin population, but to manage their own marine resources in more sustainable ways. Days are spent with a morning and afternoon boat ride to Moon Reef to study and record the behavior or the resident population of spinner dolphins. Outside of project time there are an abundance of activities such as snorkeling, exploring the local community, fishing with the locals, hikes to a nearby tropical rainforest waterfall swimming hole, or simply enjoying the views from the lodge deck of an incredible sunset over the Pacific. It is a perfect place to reflect about our time on the mainland before traveling to the outer islands for the last component of our journey.

DAYS 9-10: TRIP CLOSURE & DEPARTURE

We finally depart for home full of new experiences and inspiration. Your time in Fiji will forever be an example of communal village interactions, a way of life that may soon be lost in time.
