Today we visited Old San Juan and took a walking tour. We enjoyed the fort because of the amazing architecture. The coolest part of the fortress was a tunnel leading to a perfect ocean view. We visited the church of Ponce de Leon and saw his home, one of the oldest in the Americas. We got back to our Big Yellow House and had time outside to hangout. It has a great outside area with lots of games and sports. While it was hot and humid, the light rain cooled it down. After dinner, our favorite chaperones helped us make a contract together to uphold community norms. Overall, we had a fantastic day in old San Juan, and we can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Even though we were still a bit tired, many of us started out the day with a great run on the beach! We had a delicious breakfast of French toast, sausage, yogurt and fruit. We enjoyed some outdoor activities and spike ball! (Wearing much clothing on a very hot day), we headed to the worksite. We met many community members including a new friend, Abraham who enjoys Roblox and T. Swift. We familiarized ourselves with the area and saw many cats and dogs. Using an assembly line, we mixed concrete and poured it into molds to form a wall of a house. Although it was hard work, we know it’s sustainable service, and it was meaningful to us. We waited out a big storm and, after hours, miraculously made it to the beach to cool off. We enjoyed more time together in the yard, had dinner, and closing activities. Can’t wait for what tomorrow has to offer!

This morning we woke up at the #bigyellowhouse and packed. Some people went for a run and other people slept. It was pretty easy to pack, but kind of rushed. Then we had a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, eggs and fruit. We finished our construction at the house and had an amazing lunch at Maria’s. The food made our hard work worth it. After that we got in our vans to make the long drive to Casa Coral in Luquillo. We got some time in the river, which was a little colder than the beach. And got some peak smoothies. Casa Coral is very nice and the pizza dinner was very good. We took a salsa lesson (bugs included) and then settled in for the night. Our move into Casa Coral (Casa Bonita) has been comfortable and we are looking forward to paddle boarding tomorrow and wrapping up our trip.
