June 12, 2019

We started our day on the airplane! We then proceeded to land at Heathrow in London. It was about 3:30 in the afternoon. We were all tired and exhausted from the flight. Everyone got some dinner and then we walked around Heathrow until we boarded. We boarded our short flight to Paris. We got in Paris around 11:30 PM and got to the youth hostel around 12:30AM. We then got ready for bed and went to sleep to be ready for our first day in Paris!

This morning we had our first French breakfast in the hostile with an early start this morning. Our first adventure started with the tour of the Louvre in a nutshell. We saw all of the major items including the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, and the a Birth of Venus DeMillo. After we had a delicious lunch of baguettes with a variety of meats and cheeses. After that we walked to the Gallery de Lafayette for a few fun hours of shopping and relaxation. We shopped till we dropped and made our way via metro to a cute dinner as a group. We finished out our day with a visit to the Sacrè Cour which is a beautiful cathedral. Then to finish our day we did more shopping and took the metro safely back home!

Today we had another early morning. After breakfast we took the metro to the Eiffel Tower from there we had to wait in lines just to start the ascend to the top. Once we started, everyone wished we had taken the elevator, the amount of stairs made everyone’s legs hurt. Once we got to the second platform we had to take a very cramped elevator to the top of the tower. The views from any point in the tower where amazing and you where able to see the entire city. After that we went a couple blocks over and where able to have lots of free time to eat and shop. Then  we took the metro to the Seine and had a beautiful walk along the edge of the river. Durning the walk we where able to see many monuments including Notre Dame. For diner we went to a small cafe near the river which was delicious. To end the day we went on a boat tour down the Seine. We saw many of the older bridges in Paris and the Eiffel Tower with the lights on. On the way back to the metro we went to gelato and crêpe shops to get dessert.

Today we said goodbye to Paris and hello to a six hour transit train ride to beautiful Carcassonne. The train was long but we passed the time by playing cards, listening to music and the occasional nap. Once we arrived, our wonderful host families brought all of the city’s finest for a short meet and greet with snacks and drinks. We then left with our families and we came to a house with two girls and an adorable dog. And the rest of the afternoon we played with them; learning new words by the minute and teaching some on the way. Our first dinner was a traditional carcassonian meat with potatoes and a fresh Green salad. We hit the hay early after a long travel day. Au revoir.

Bonjour! Today with our host family we went to a very old in medieval kind of town. We learned how to make flour and old-style gaufres (waffles). After that we went to lunch on a beautiful countryside hill. We tried a new sandwich called a croque monsieur. It was amazing! We then headed over to the Carcassonne Castle to do an activity with our group. We played a fun scavenger hunt game and ended up winning! We ended up with a ton of photos and a big lollipop. It was great! We came home to rest and then ate a delicious orzo pasta and egg and potato pizza for dinner. A bit later we showed our family parts of Denver on Google Maps. They were amazed! Au revoir!
