Sara Lavell
Sara was raised in a multicultural home on the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica, with a British father and a Panamanian mother. Her globetrotting began at age 11 with a trip spanning Miami, London, Jordan and Israel. This first foray abroad sparked an enduring curiosity in Sara about diverse cultures and ways of life. She went on to earn a B.Sc. in Geography and a Master’s degree in Tourism Intelligence, alongside her decade-plus career leading summer travel programs for students across Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and Cuba. She previously helped coordinate Peace Corps efforts in Costa Rica as well. Sara’s wanderlust also led her to spend four years living in various cities across Spain—fully immersing herself in Spanish culture and cuisine before recently returning home to Costa Rica. When not blazing new trails, Sara works remotely as a consultant on gender and environmental studies, focused primarily on climate change. She derives joy from facilitating hands-on learning experiences, encouraging students to explore, question, and learn beyond the confines of a classroom.
